A former suburb, Mt. Eden is now part of Hayward city. The town got its name from the early settlers who came here during the time of the Gold Rush. Mt. Eden is said to have got its name when few travelers who traveled from Mt. Eden Kentucky reached here and nailed the same name on a couple of trees. The town eventually developed a shipping industry. The famous Mt. Eden centre is now a freeway interchange
