Magalia is a census-designated place of the Butte County which was formerly popular as Dogtown, Butte Mills and Mountain View. Magalia was also one of the few towns that were established during the Californian Gold Rush in the year 1849. As a mining camp, it was called Butte Mills after which a dog breeding operation began in the town and thus, it came to be known as Dogtown. Located almost near the heart of Butte County, Magalia is filled with a variety of flora and fauna species. Mammals including the raccoon, black tailed deer and the grey squirrel are found in the vicinity. A nature bound and tranquil place in the Butte County.
