The county seat of the Contra Costa County is none other than the city of Martinez that boasts of its modern infrastructure and downtown. One of the two places, apart from the Golden Gate Bridge, where the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the San Francisco Bay Trail converges is the Martinez with a soothing Mediterranean climate. While the major landmarks include the Golden Strings and the John Muir National Historic Site, the 16 city parks and a marina provide plenty of recreational opportunities. In fact, the water-front bocce ball courts host the nation’s largest bocce federation.
