Snuggled on the Paradise Ridge of the western foothills in the Sierra Nevada is the striking unincorporated community of Stirling City! Elevated at a height of 3570 feet above sea level, Stirling City is located around 45 miles northeast of Chico city. The city is built pretty interestingly around a loop which terminates a winding spur line of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The loop was historically built to collect lumber from the Lassen National Forest. The city was founded in 1903 by the Diamond Match Company of Barbeton (Ohio), predominantly as a center for processing the cut lumber of the surrounding regions. Shortly by the 1970s, the sawmills closed down and the surrounding lands of Stirling City became a center for harvesting timber; it still exists with the cleared area used for fruits, nuts and cattle! A historically colored city of the county!
