Nestled about 6.5 miles east-southeast of Paradise and elevated at a height of 1982 feet above sea level is yet another beautiful unincorporated community of Yankee Hill. It was formerly also popular as Rich Gulch and Spanishtown. Looking at its historical background, a post office at Yankee Hill operated from 1858 to 1951 and it was in 1850 that the town named Rich Gulch was established. Then, when the Spanish & Chilean miners arrived in around the 1950s, they renamed the town to Spanishtown. With the coming of the New Englanders a little later, the name Yankee Hill was adopted. Since it is nestled at a short distance from Paradise, it depends primarily on Paradise for commerce and education but serves as a peaceful community to live in!
